About Mester
Mester is the journal of the graduate students of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of California, Los Angeles. We are dedicated to publishing work that reflects the highest level of scholarship while pushing the limits of accepted views and convenient categories. Since 1970 we have built a reputation as one of the best student-run journals in North America, publishing articles by established scholars alongside the best work of graduate students We publish critical articles, interviews and book reviews in the fields of Spanish, Portuguese, Spanish American, Brazilian and Latino/a literature and linguistics. Mester also welcomes articles in Comparative Literature, Critical Theory and Cultural Studies. Submissions may be written in Spanish, Portuguese or English.
The journal is now published annually, and it is indexed in the MLA International Bibliography of Books and Articles on the Modern Languages and Literatures.

Mester LIII welcomes submissions from transdisciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches related to the representation of queer and trans resistance to multiple forms of violence in Latin American literatures and cultures.
