Development of the Capability-Enhanced PARAMICS Simulation Environment

Abstract

Paramics is a widely used microscopic traffic simulation program. One important feature of Paramics is that it allows users to customize many features of the underlying simulation model through application programming interfaces (API). This paper summarizes work on the development of the capability-enhanced Paramics simulation environment, Paramics-E, that integrates a number of plug-in modules implemented in Paramics API. These APIs complement the functionalities of the commercial Paramics model and enable real-time traffic data collection, processing and communication, as well as control of operations through dynamic linking. The enhanced Paramics simulation can model not only target traffic conditions and operations but also various potential ATMIS strategies.
