@@border:1px solid red;The frog looks angry. Really angry.@@
He hops towards you rapidly, he looks like he is about to attack you; he has an evil glimmer in his eye.
[[run the other way]]
[[find a stick or weapon to whack him with]]
He's enormous but you pick him up to move him out of the way anyways. You decide that you will give him a name.
<<textbox "$name" $name>>
[[continue]] <<set $name to "Clyde">>
<<print $name>> smiles. He begins to hop away down the trail. He looks like he's taking the path which leads into town but it's a little bit longer.
[[follow him, you don't have much to do today anyways]]
You've been walking along the path for around half an hour now, you are deep in the woods now. You see something in the path ahead of you. It's big and lumpy. As you get closer you realize it is a fat, warty, lumpy frog. The path is mucky from the rains last week on both sides so your path is blocked by this frog. He doesn't seem like he's going to budge.
[[kick him out of the way|hit]]
[[pick him up gently and move him to the side|hold]]You follow <<print $name>> down the trail. He looks behind him every few hops, it seems like he's making sure that you are still following him. He comes to a hollow in a tree and sits there until you catch up. He sits there staring at you. You're not exactly sure what he wants from you until you see something shiny in the tree hollow.
[[reach inside the tree hole]]There's a framed photograph inside! It's a picture of a beautiful looking frog wearing lipstick. It looks like its <<print $name>>'s wife. A signle tear slips down his cheek. Your heart hurts for him, [[you lost someone close to you once too]]. You look deeper into the the tree's hollow; there's something else there.
[[continue|sword]]
@@border:1px solid lightpink;Frog Quest@@
You look out your window to your left; it's a mild spring day and the grass on the countryside is glimmering with the morning mist. It's still early as you get out of bed to start your morning chores. Your wife left you last year because you wanted to quit your job and move out to the countryside. She wanted life in a big city, you wanted peace and tranquility, away from other people who just make your life miserable. You think back to your old sales job where your boss and the other guys in the office used mess with you. You shake the haunting memories out of your head and come back to your tranquil reality. You are glad that it is so nice out today, as you know that you will have to make the treck into town later. You feed the cows and chickens, and put your breakfast scraps into the pig trough. By now it is late morning and you decide to pack your bag with snacks for later and some coins to pay for the chicken feed that you need to buy, and get on your way. You start down the long wooded trail into town.
[[continue|begin]]You glance at the photo you always keep folded in your pocket. Your wife that left to live in Spain by herself and decided to never return. You fold it and put it back in your pocket
<<back "Go back">>You reach into the tree hollow again, this time past your elbow. You blindly reach around until you feel something hard and metal. You pull it out. It's a long sword that gleams in the right. What the heck. You look at <<print $name>>, he has a fire in his eyes, he hops rapidly down the path. You're invested now, you sprint after him
[[run|battle]]
[[sprint|battle]]After following <<print $name>> for a while you both arrive at a clearing in the woods. There is a single tree in the middle with a bearded man sleeping at the base.
[[move closer, quietly]]You get closer, the bearded man hasn't stirred. You look back at <<print $name>>. He gives you a nod. You think that you know what he wants... Should you do it?
[[stab the old man]]
[[walk away]]
This frog is kind of freaking you out. He really is kind of nasty looking. You decide to jog in the other direction. You take the long way into town. You make it into the small town and head to the store where you usually get your farming supplies. You bring your sacks of chicken feed and new tools to the front counter.
[[take out your wallet]]
The rain must have washed away all of the sticks and debris from the path. There's nothin that you can use to hit him.
[[fight him with your hands]]
[[run the other way]]You raise the sword above your head. Before you plunge it into the sleeping man, you look back at <<print $name>>. He shakes his head. You pause. With his little frog hand he points up. Hanging from the branches of the tree theres a burlap sack.
[[cut down the bag]]As you turn away from the old man with the sword by your side you look at <<print $name>>. <<print $name>> points up with his little frog hand. Hanging from the branches of the tree theres a burlap sack.
[[cut down the bag]]You cut down the bag and run towards <<print $name>>. You both get out of the clearing as fast as you can. Once you both are far away from the old man, you empty the contents of the bag on the ground.
[[continue|wife]]Out from the burlap sack hops the lady frog from the picture. She looks just as radiant as she did in the photo. <<print $name>> and her exchange hugs. The two of them then motion for you to follow them back in the direction you all came.
[[continue|presents]]<<print $name>> takes you back to the hollow where he led you before. This time, he takes you to a tree hollow a couple feet away. He wants you to reach inside.
[[reach inside the hollow]]Inside the second tree hole is a large sack of gold. <<print $name>> and his frog wife smile at you. You smile back and thank them, weather or not they can understand you, and continue on your way to the market with daylight to spare and some gold to weigh down your backpack.
[[the end|return]]You're not afraid of some frog. You stand tall and stance to fight him. You plan to just squash him with your foot when he comes close enough. He is barreling towards you but you are ready.
[[continue|suplex]]You swing your leg to kick him but he is suprisingly fast. Before you know it he has grabbed you from behind. He suplexes you and you land on your head and neck. You lie there in pain while the frog runs towards your house.
[[try to get up|ransack]]
[[beg for mercy]]You try to get up and the frog runs back and kicks you down again. All you can do is watch while the frog ransacks your farm, your home, everything you worked for. You are in too much pain to move. You have a bad back from laboring on the farm. This is probably why your wife left you.
[[beg him to stop]]
[[lay down and give up]]You reach into your back pocket for your wallet but its gone. It must have fallen out when you had to run for a little bit when you ran into that frog. Your heart sinks. You feel like a failure. The store owner gives you one sack of feed that you can pay him back for later but you can't get the rest of the things you wanted to buy.
[[start walking home]]You feel like a failure. Today is not your day. You thought that living out on a farm in the country side would help you escape your feelings of inadequacy, but the feelings are bubbling up again. You make it to the edge of town where your paths diverge.
[[take the short way home]]
[[take the long way home to look for your wallet]]All you want is to just be done with this day. You got intimidated by a frog, lost your wallet, and can't even properly run your farm. Your ex wife was right, you are a failure. You take the short way home and arrive at your door step and see something leaning against your front door.
[[pick it up]]You walk back the long way and scour the path for your wallet. You have been walking for a while now but there is still no sign of your wallet. You finally make it to the place on the trail where you first broke into a run to get away from that weird giant frog. As you get closer to the spot the frog hops out from the trees into your path. He has your wallet in his mouth. You've been so filled with self loathing this whole walk, you know that you can't back down now. Be a man. You walk up to the frog slowly and take the wallet out of his mouth. He still sits there, blocking the entire narrow trail.
[[pick him up and move him out of the way|hold]]You get closer and pick up the object on your front porch. It's your wallet! You look around into the forrest that surrounds your farm. No one is there. You look inside your wallet, everything is still there. The outside is just a little bit slimy. You wipe it off and walk in the front door. You sit on your couch and sigh. At least today wasn't all bad. Maybe someone or something is looking out for you after all. Now that you have your money back you can go back into town tomorrow. You finish your chores for the day early and decide to go to bed. You rest peacfully, you know that you will make it, and that you're not the person that everyone said you were. You are strong, you're going to make it.
[[the end|return]]You apologize to the frog. "Please don't hurt me, I'm so sorry that I bothered you. It has been a tough year, I'm not usually like this, I'm so sorry." He pauses to listen. He takes a few hops forward and moves past you in the opposite direction of your house. He stops and looks back at you. You can distincly sense that he wants you to follow him. You don't want to get beaten up again. You pull yourself up even though you are battered and bruised. You walk towards the frog and he hops onward slowly so that you can keep up.
[[follow him]]You follow for a short while, you're still aching from the beating you took earlier. You limp along until you reach a small clearing in the trees. The frog darts away into the trees quickly, seconds later he returns, dragging a long sword out from the bushes. You panic. Is he about to execute you?
[[continue|swordz$$$$]]Your pleas don't have any impact on the frog, he just continues to tear your house appart on the inside. You beg one more time "Please stop, I'm sorry I tried to hurt you." The frog turns his head to look at you and hops towards you. He reaches into your right pocket and grabs the photo of your ex wife that you keep in your pocket at all times. He rips it to shreds before you can do anything. You lay on the ground, beaten and bruised until nightfall. You have nothing left, your farm is destroyed, you are paralyzed with pain... Maybe it was time for you to go back to the city, you obviously can't hack it as a country boy. A single tear drips down your cheek. You really are a failure. Maybe you will beg your wife to come home in the morning.
[[the end|return]]You're pathetic. You lay on the ground and weep, staring at the picture of your ex wife that you keep in your pocket. This is why she left you. You decide that tomorrow you will sell the farm and move back with your parents.
[[the end|return]]Thankfuly the frog places the sword at your feet. You breathe a sigh of relief and bend over to pick up the sword. The frog plops along and you continue to follow. You could probablly kill him right now with the sword if you wanted to, but at this point you want to see where he's taking you and why.
[[continue|clearing]]You soon arrive at a small clearing in the trees where in the middle there is an old man sleeping against a tree. You look back at the frog and he points your attention upward. Hanging in the tree above the old man is a burlap sack. You limp up to the sleeping man and try to reach up to cut the bag down. You must have hurt your ankle during the fight earlier because when you jump up to reach the bag, pain shoots through your ankle and you wince. You jump again but it hurts your ankle too badly.
[[continue|man awakens]]On the last attempt you made you steped on the sleeping old man's finger. He's stirring now. You have to hurry. You leap into the air one last time. Victory! You cut the bag down. You have to get away fast.
[[run!]]You limp away as fast as you can, pain shooting through your whole leg now. You can feel the adrenaline rushing through you. You feel alive. Once you make it far enough away from the old man you drop the sack on the ground. The frog rushes over to the sack as another frog hops out. The two frogs embrace. You smile sadly. You're kind of happy for him. The frog nods at you before hopping away with the other frog you just freed. You limp home feeling satisfied. You're glad that you had an adventure today. You didn't make it to the market but that's an adventure for another day. Today you were a hero.
[[the end|return]]
